which has brought about the present money difficulty and we under-

-stood that principally in Krup's interests we must do the other

business in order that Krup may still keep in. In order not to

lose the chance of Yiut-Chang's big ardar for guns, we must sell

him the 40.000 rifles at μ 188 through which we shall be in a

pretty meas; it was purely for the sake of Krupp that we did the

railway business in inhui and Kianku in excess of our financial

resources; and against this we still have unsettled demands for Tle.

385,000 in order to sell for Krupp a battery of field guns: the

Nanking loan, in which we are interested to the extent of 1.460,000 and for the rest runs the 'delcredire' (?) (at least for Krupp's

share) to say nothing of small accounts e.g. powder for the Kiangsu

arsenal which has not paid a cent, for which Krupp always receives

cash from us. And what thanks do we get for it ? Only harsh traat-

-ment from Krupps (who for 1911 again distributes 11% dividend and

gives the trifle of M. 14,000,000 to their workers) and a deduction

of M. 20,000 interest, with the argument that you had not noticed it and now they do us out of 8% interest on financial business and

also about 7% commission.

As regards the letter to the D.A.B. (Deutsch

Asiatische Bank) which I did not mention I have already dealt with
